FACES OF MARGRATEN

MEET OUR LIBERATORS

Rows, endless rows of white marble crosses and stars of David. This is what one sees when overlooking the American War Cemetery and Memorial Netherlands in Margraten, the Netherlands. Close to 8,300 American soldiers have been buried in this cemetery; another 1,722 names are listed on the Walls of the Missing. We do know the names of all these men and women, but who were they? DuringThe Faces of Margratentribute, we put a face to their names, by decorating their graves or names on the Walls of the Missing with a personal photo.

With the support of the graves' adopters, the soldiers' relatives, and many others, the foundation has been able to collect the photos of approximately 3,300 American soldiers who have been buried or memorialized at the American War Cemetery and Memorial Netherlands forthe first edition of The Faces of Margraten tribute in 2015. A year later, in 2016, about 4,100 photos had been found and were displayed duringthe 2016 tribute. In2018, more than 5,800 photos were on display. Join us to help us to put a face to even more names of our liberators.Learn moreabout how you can.

Lest we forget.

NOBODY DESERVES TO BE FORGOTTEN

Both 2019 and 2020 were remarkable years. During these years, people from all over the world commemorated and celebrated the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. The end of the war in the Netherlands came closer when U.S. soldiers crossed the border near the town of Mesch on September 12, 1944, which became the first town to be liberated. However, it would take until May 5, 1945 before the country was fully liberated. And that liberation came at a heavy price for those who fought for it. That is why we say thank you to our American liberators who have been buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in the town of Margraten. We pay tribute to them by decorating their graves and names on the Walls of the Missing with their personal photos. Join us in our quest for the missing faces andhelp to rememberto those who sacrificed their all for our freedom.
